MOONLIGHTING

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A new head office for Moonlighting Filmmakers was designed in an old grain factory in Cape Town. The existing building was very awkwardly shaped, but had beautiful original trusses, and timber floor detailing. The brief was for an open plan office, which was intimate, contemporary and complementary of the existing warehouse. Visual transparency was required, with plenty of sound insulation. The project was conceptualised as an extension of the film production service. The layout was arranged to reflect the speed of the process, optimised for rapid exchange and interaction. Various vessels were designed within the space as meeting or conversation rooms; these spaces were the spaces of the film camera, voyeuristic and mechanistic vessels that projected ideas through large glass panels. Two massive glazed windows are placed on the street frontage, and become large eyes or screens for the project the inner workings of the company, and layer these with the reflections of the street.
